Abstract :

Anita Desai, in her novels, primarily concentrates on the cries of modern woman in this male-dominated society. According to her, men are apt to be rational and women are sentimental and emotional. In her views, the women, who, as chief protagonists, suffer in a meticulous world dominated by men, who in the guise of father, brother or husband, present a constant threat to their integrity and intuition. Maya, in Cry, the Peacock, represents a class of women who silently suffer at the hands of men.
