IMPACT OF RIVER ON HUMAN LIFE: A CASE STUDY OF MAHANANDA BASIN IN CHANCHAL BLOCK-I, MALDA, WEST BENGAL, INDIA

Abstract :

Every where on earth man is dependent on nature. It is nature that controls human lives every now and then. River is an important boon gifted by nature as it performed the role on the socio-economic lives of people an at present and future as it performed the role in past. The impact of the Ganges, its tributary and branches on Indian public life is immense. The river Ganges flow down the southern part of Malda district. Many a rivers of North Bengal have joined themselves with these rivers. Mahananda is a notable river of this kind. Chanchal block-I is situated at north-east direction of Malda .The Mahananda flows down across north-east boarder of the block. How much importance the human living on the banks of the Mahananda river derive for their socio-economic need has been tried to put on discussion through this paper . The trends of irrigation, catching of fish, and cultivation on the inhabitants dwelling on the limited space of river are mention worthy. On the other hand, many a crisis has been created from the usage of the river for domestic as well as social purpose. It has also been highlighted on how these problems throw an impact on their socio-economic life. Even how the problem, if needed are to be rectified, have been analysed.
