FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT IN INDIA: AN ANALYSIS

Abstract :

Foreign direct investments have been playing an important role in Indian economic development. India has to take decision to globalise its economy in 1991. The globalisation of world economy helps to transfer the flow of surpluses from the developed to developing countries. The policy of government of India on FDI since 1991 has been aimed at encouraging foreign investment. The study reveals that total FDI proposals approved since 1991 till 2002 amounted to Rs. 2,90,854 crores and actual flows of FDI has amounted Rs. 1,51,124 crores during 1991 to 2003. The study show that FDI flows in to Indian is increased from $6051 million in 2004-05 to $35180 million in 2008-09. On the 14 September 2012 the government of India has announced reforms in Indian FDI policy. Union Cabinet approves the FDI limit in multi brand retail of 51 percent and single brand retail is permitted upto 100 percent. The new reform should be very beneficial for Indian industries and agricultural sectors and other sectors & for development of infrastructure facility in our country. FDI should also very beneficial for increases new job opportunity and for increases sales and profit of Indian industries.
