Volume : III, Issue : IV, May - 2013 SURYO SEN (1898-1934): A REVOLUTIOARY HERO OF ANTI BRITISH MOVEMENT IN BENGALIQTHYER UDDIN MD ZAHED Published By : Laxmi Book Publication Abstract : Suryo Sen's revolution triggered a new wave of freedom movement across the
country. His dream was an independent India. The oppression and discrimination of
British ruler against the people of his country made him upset, and also inspired him to
take rebellion strength against them. He was devoted and encouraged by his teacher
Professor Sotish Chandr chokroborti. As a great organiser, he was selected as a
President of Jugantor of East Bengal Branch and President of Congress of Chittagong
District Branch in 1929. He changed his organisation's name by “Indian Republican
Army” by following Irish revolution of Irish Republican Army. They decided to run
operation in Chittagong railway armoury, Telephone & Telegraph office at Nandon
kanon, Chittagong, Dampara Police line and Pahartoli European Club simultaneously
at the night on April 18, 1930. They succeeded all of operation except Pahartoli
European Club because of Good Fry day. Surya Sen's dream became true for few days.
The revolutionaries flew up the flag in the free sky of independent India after capturing
Chittagong, Bangladesh and declared Temporary Revolutionary Government. At last
British Army arrested him from the house of Khiroproda Bishwas, village of Gairala in
Patiya, Chittagong while he was attending a meeting with revolutionists. He was
sentenced of death and hanged on 12 January 1934. His dream comes true at 15 August
