Pasang Sherpa

Published By : Laxmi Book Publication

Abstract :

This research paper is a part of a larger study on Role of Education in Social Inclusion Muslims in Nepal, which was carried out in Banke district of Nepal in 2011. This paper addresses the present socio-economic scenario and the level of exclusion at the household and community levels of Muslims in Nepal. Muslims are one of the highly disadvantaged, marginalized and excluded minority groups with distinct religious and cultural identities in Nepal. They have been excluded from the social, economic, educational and political institutions; which, is reflected in their low literacy, high poverty rate and low representation in civil service, police, military and other decision-making levels of the state. Historically, they have been ignored by the state and excluded from the mainstream development processes due to their origin, religious minority status and territorial/regional identity.
