Abstract :

Bharati Mukherjee is a celebrated novelist who portrays her protagonist’s inner struggle for identity and their cultural dilemma in the immigrant land. ‘Jasmine’ is the third novel published by Mukherjee in 1990. It has been selected as a New York Times Book Review notable book of the year. The protagonist suffers as an expatriate in America but she accepts it as a part of multicultural experience. Her changing identities from Jyoti to Jase to Jasmine to Jane are inextricably linked with her cultural conflict.
