Volume : IV, Issue : VII, August - 2014 ECONOMIC ANALYSIS OF FOOD PROCESSING INDUSTRY IN SOLAPUR DISTRICTPravin Pundalik Rajguru, None By : Laxmi Book Publication Abstract : Food processing dates back to the prehistoric age when crude processing including various types of cooking, such as over fire, smoking, steaming, fermenting, sun drying and preserving with salt were in practice. Foods preserved this way were a common part of warriors’ and sailors’ diets. These crude processing techniques remained essentially the same until the advent of the Industrial Revolution. Nicolas Apart developed a vacuum bottling process to supply food to troops in the French army, which eventually led to canning in tins by Peter Durand in 1810.
