Abstract :

Human Development measures capture disparity and other dimensions of social well-being. However, changes in the stock of natural resources or the environment are not directly included in the computation of the indicator. However, HDI do not consider the measures of environmental aspects in it. Attaining higher human development status and sustaining it for a long time requires the dependence and extraction of resources. Therefore, Human development issues and environmental issues cannot be viewed as exclusive issues. In this context, this paper attempts to examine the relationship between Human Development (HD) and Environmental Degradation (ED) for Karnataka at district level.
