Importance of Agricultural Finance in India

Abstract :

Agricultural development is an integral part of overall economic development. Agriculture sector is the mainstay of the Indian economy contributing about 15 per cent of national Gross Domestic Product. The importance of long-term credit for agriculture cannot be over emphasized. Due to modernization of Indian Agriculture, agricultural finance has a vast scope in future. Agriculture Rural Multipurpose Development Banks in India have become important institution providing long-term agricultural credit. The involvement of the NABARD in financing long-term agricultural credit has necessitated the need for the effective functioning of the Agriculture in India.
