AURANGABAD: A student body on Friday staged an agitation saying the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) does not guarantee jobs but is being conducted to cover up the failure of the Common Entrance Test (CET). The Mahiti Seva Samiti Vidhyarthi Seva Samiti today expressed their protest for the implementation of the Teachers Eligibility Test (TEST) on the basis that it does not guarantee jobs and that the exam is just to overcome the failure of Common Entrance Test (CET) held for D.Ed. "The CET conducted for D.Ed candidates has not solved the purpose in providing jobs," said Sunil Wagh state president of the Mahiti and Vidyarthi Seva Samiti. Wagh alleged the TET was only a ploy by the government to earn money. "Around eight lakh candidates are likely to sit for the test and each will have to pay a sum of Rs 800 for the purpose," he said. The government should at least have announced the number of vacant seats as is done before the civil services examination is conducted," said Wagh. Both the CET and TET have been conceived by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and hence the existing eligibility should have been included under the same head, Wagh added. The Samiti also demanded that the exam fee be lowered for the economically backward candidates. The CET and TET should be conducted on the same dates, the samiti members said. They added that if their demands were not met, they would agitate again on October 28 at Kranti chowk in the city.
