Category : University Grant Commission
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) to rename its flagship course, Master of Public Policy (MPP) to MA in Public Policy. The course was introduced at NLSIU two years back. UGC informed the law school that it recognises only select nomenclature for course and the 'Master of Public Policy' is not in the list of nomenclature. Master of Public Policy is a two-year residential course, which has 42 students in the first batch and 47 students in the second batch. As per the reports, a committee has been constituted by the Law University to prepare a comprehensive report having details as to why the original name of the course i.e. MPP should be retained, which will be subsequently submitted to UGC. Whereas the NLSIU prefer to retain the original nomenclature as it would be helpful for students who plan to go abroad. For the time being, the NLSIU has changed the name of the MPP course to MA in Public Policy on its website and other advertisement materials.
