It was an evening of brainstorming and inspiration as roadmaps to India's journey to becoming the ideal place for higher education were deliberated upon at the first 'Higher Education Summit', which was organised by CII. The summit was attended by Vidyasagar Rao (Governor of Maharashtra), Vinod Tawde (Minister of Higher and Technical Education of Maharashtra), Ninad Karpe (Chairman of CII) and Dr Ajeenkya D Y Patil (President, Ajeenkya D Y Patil University and Chairman of Ajeenkya D Y Patil Group). Industry leaders, educational reformers and policy makers from across India and the globe gathered on a single platform to brainstorm on innovations to chart out India's journey to becoming the capital of higher educational excellence. Said Dr Ajeenkya, "I thank the CII for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this gathering. The Indian education system is the finest in the subcontinent and has produced quality graduates, working in top institutions around the world and serving as world class surgeons. There was once an era when India was known as the centre of educational excellence, when people from around the world came to India to seek knowledge. The time has come to embrace this title once again. New research, radical thinkers, inventions and innovations that create an impact at a global level are the need of the hour. Educational institutions and industries have to come together to work together towards this singular vision." Added Tawde, "Progress in higher education has rapidly increased in the past two decades and had led to low cost college education available to all. Despite progress, higher education in India is still not the best."
