MYSORE ROAD: Shortage of well-trained faculty, poor infrastructure and irrelevant curriculum are affecting the quality education in India, said Vice President M Hamid Ansari feels Speaking at an event organised by R V College of Engineering on Tuesday to celebrate its golden jubilee, Ansari said, “Quality of our higher education system continues to be affected. Greater examination reforms, choice-based credit system and semester systems are yet to take off in a big way.” Though the number of higher education institutions is high, a majority of them are not up to the mark, he said. “Our higher education institutions produce over seven lakh engineering graduates every year. But, as per the industry survey, just 24 per cent of them are employable,” he noted. According to Ansari, the massive enrolment in higher education institutions is a big issue and has resulted in overcrowded classrooms, shortage of teaching space and laboratories. “This issue requires urgent corrective measures,” he said. Governor Vajubhai Vala, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Higher Education Minister R V Deshpande and president of the trust M K Panduranga Shetty were present.
