| MYSORE: Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) is offering the state's first B.Sc course in software engineering and systems. It has allowed a city-based institute to offer the courses. KSOU registrar P S Naik and dean S N Vikram Raj Urs launched the courses at the Adithya Institute of Management and Information Technology (AIMIT).
KSOU, which is the third largest university in India, has extended affiliation to AIMIT to offer 11 programmes ranging from degree to post-graduate diploma. To start with, the institute is starting four programmes, including the degree course in software engineering, which is designed differently from other bachelor of degree courses in Information Technology and Computer Science branches, MIMIT stated. It is a six-semester course. The emphasis is on software engineering principles. To achieve it, focus is on practical work and project management, which will enable students to gain knowledge of various tools and techniques required to design, develop and implement software projects, it added.
All the courses will be managed by the institute in partnership with KSOU. Examination and certification will be handled by the varsity. Admissions to these courses will be carried out through study centres of KSOU, it stated.
"Going by the demand for professional-oriented courses, we have launched four different courses. Seven others will be launched in a phased manner,'' said K A Anitha Venkatesh, CEO of the institute.
The four-semester certified computer professional course is job-oriented and designed to impart knowledge on all the essential aspects of both the hardware and software technologies. This mainly targets those who have completed SSLC and not able to perceive higher education.
Post-graduation diploma in teachers training is a two-semester course targeting degree holders and working as computer teachers. |
