UGC announces PG Scholarships 2014 for Professional Courses for SC, ST

The Union Grants Commission (UGC) – the ultimate regulator of higher education in India, has announced Post Graduate (PG) Scholarships 2014 for Professional Courses, especially for SC or ST candidates. Under the scheme, Graduate SC (Scheduled Caste) and ST (Scheduled Tribe) candidates who belong to the deprived section of the candidate will be offered financial assistance to enable them to undertake postgraduate-level studies in Engineering & Technology, Management & Pharmacy in any of the Indian university, colleges or institutions. No. of UGC scholarships available: 1,000 Tenure of the scholarship: 2-3 years (depending upon the remaining years of postgraduation course in which the candidate has been admitted. Amount of Scholarship Scholars pursuing M. Tech course will receive Rs 5,000 per month along with a contingency grant of Rs 15,000 per annum. For any other course, scholars will receive Rs 3,000 per month and a contingency grant of Rs 10,000 per annum. On completion of the PG programme, awardees will have to submit the audited utilization certifications issued by the institutions where they have been enrolled. Eligibility Criteria Candidates must have done graduation in the relevant subject and obtained admission in a regular full-time professional course at PG level in a recognised institution. Please note that the candidates pursuing postgraduate course in professional subjects through correspondence of distance education mode are not eligible to apply for the scholarships. Age Limit Upper age limit for male candidates is 45 years on July 1, 2014. For female candidates, the upper age limit is 50 years on the given date. In exceptional cases, age limit may be relaxed though. Once the UGC fellowship is awarded to a candidate, he is not allowed to take up any job, employment or other fellowship during the tenure for which the UGC fellowship is awarded. Candidates will have to submit yearly progress report signed by the Head of the Department and University Registrar, Institution Head, or College Principal to keep receiving the scholarship.
