| Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore will continue with its four-year undergraduate programme (FYUP). The University Grants Commission (UGC) is understood to have allowed IISc Bangalore to continue the FYUP after revewing the clarifications the institute has provided in its support.
According to PTI, IISc was among the three institutes that had been asked by the UGC to discontinue the FYUP and follow the UGC notification on specification of degrees.
IISc had, however, sent a detailed clarification about its programmes and duration seeking review of the UGC decision.
The institute's clarification to UGC's directive mentioned that students pursuing the course get their degree at the end of three years while the last year is reserved in pursuing research under IISc Bangalore's four-year course.
Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani had told Parliament earlier that IISc Bangalore, Shiv Nadar Noida and Symboisis Pune were conducting the four-year BA and BS programmes and that they had been asked by the UGC to discontinue them.
The development came after Delhi University rolled back its controversial programme folowing masive protests. |
