 | Stress on role of higher education in development of people | | published on : 04-04-2014 | | Category : Higher Education | | Stressing the need for spreading higher education, Neyveli Lignite Corporation Chairman-cum-Managing Director B. Surender Mohan has said that it has become necessary for personality development and progress of the country.
He was delivering the Graduation Day address at Kolanjiappar Government Arts College here recently. Mr. Mohan said that besides providing knowledge and wisdom, higher education also plays an important role in ensuring socio-economic well being of people.
Higher education instils confidence in the youths, enhances their skill levels and imparts scientific temper.
Undergraduate level is an also an important phase in students’ life as they develop their personality and professional aptitude during the period.
Mr. Mohan underscored the point that education also empowers women and emboldens them to seek their rights.
He congratulated the college management for giving admission to a large number of women. Of the 4,000 students on the rolls of the college, about 3,400 are women.
He also said that learning is a lifelong process and the more one learns, the broader would be the perspective.
“Contribute to society”
No person could be called educated if he or she fails to contribute to society, he added.
