Technical and professional institutes in Odisha may receive 20 per cent hike in fee structure. According to a newspaper report, the hike was proposed by Fee Structure Committee (FSC) working under Technical Education and Training (DTET). If the call for revision gets a government approval, a technical college charging Rs 50,000 for a B. Tech course earlier will charge Rs 60,000. Post graduation courses will receive an additional 10 per cent hike. MCA courses will receive hike in the same lines as B.Tech, said the report. Fees will be hiked in 46 engineering colleges, 49 MBA colleges, 16 pharmacy colleges, 38 MCA colleges, five MAM colleges and three PGDM colleges. All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) norms and recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission were taken under consideration to decide over the amount of fee hike. The fee structures in the professional and technical colleges were once revised in 2010-11. The committee has called for another revision this time. Fee revision proposed by FSC will be forwarded to the state government for the final approval, after which it will be implemented under the Orissa Professional Educational Institutions Act, 2007. The delay in the fee revision took place because few of the colleges did not submit their revised fee proposal on time.
