Abstract :

The present study was undertaken to identify the various traditional grain storage structures utilized by the farmers of Nandurbar district of Maharashtra state. The storage structures were found to vary depending upon the climatic conditions and rainfall. It is estimated that sixty to seventy percent of food grains produced in Nandurbar district is stored at household level in indigenous storage structures. The agricultural storage structures utilized by the rural folk of the district are of traditional type viz., Kanagi, Kothi, Vendala, Gola, Bodhadi (bamboo structures) and Pota (gunny bag). All these structures are made up of locally available materials such as bamboo sticks, mud, paddy straw, wheat straw, cow dung and so-on. They are different in design, shape, size and functions.
