Abstract :

Soil pollution by heavy metals is one of the global environmental problems. There are various soil remediation methods, including physical, chemical and biological methods. Among the latter is Phytoremediation using native plants which can be potentially used. In the present study , accumulation of Al, Ba, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, Zn by five native plant species growing at industrial area in Jeddah City, Saudi Arabia were assessed. These are: Dipterygium glaucum, Indigofera spiniflora, Salsola kali, Suaeda aegyptiaca, and Zygophyllum album. Metal biological absorption coefficient (BAC), bio-concentration factor (BCF) and translocation factor (TF) were calculated, therefore used to select the best acted plant of these. On one hand, results showed that some elements were found with very high total concentrations in all plants, such as Al, Fe and Zn with range of 1696-2689.67, 1903.83-3164.45 and 538.9-3564.24 mg/Kg, respectively
