Abstract :

Morality is only the preliminary stage on the path of purity in Buddhism. The most commonly observed set of precepts followed by the lay people are the five precepts, or the five virtues. In observing the principles of morality a Buddhist should not only regard his own self but also should have a consideration for others as well, animal not excluded. There are some who do good because it is good, Refrains from evils because it is bad. As moral teachings, it excels all other ethical systems but morality is only the beginning and not the end of Buddhism.
