EV ALUA TION OF ANTIDEPRESSANT ACTIVITYIN CENTRALNERVOUS SYSTEM OFMICE MODEL USING AQUEOUS EXTRACTOF DIGERAMURICAT A

Abstract :

The aim of the present study was to evaluate some effects of Digera muricata (DM) on central nervous system. The effects of Aqueous Extracts of Digera muricata (AEDM) tested with Neuropharmacological activities like acute toxicity , spontaneous motor activity , exploratory behavioral pattern, marble burying and tail suspension tests were studied in Albino mice. In acute toxicity mice were administered with AEDM and MEDM doses orally at 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg body weight intraperitoneally respectively , were tested in mice using different standards like 4 mg diazepam/kg, 3 mg chlorpromazine and 3 mg imipramin/kg -induced sleep test. The AEDM in dosages (150 mg/kg) was found to produce a profound increase in all the behavioral activity . It also showed a marked antidepressant effect as evidenced by a significant increase in all central nervous system behavioral experiments.
