Abstract :

Health is an essential input for the development of human resources and the quality of life and in turn the Social and economic development of the nation. A positive health status is defined as a State of Complete Physical, Mental and Social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity [WHO,1946]. Health is regarded a priority for sustained development interventions both at the individual, community and national levels. Improved health is a part of total Socio-economic development and is regarded as an index of Social Development. Provision of basic health care services to rural community is the primary objective of the government as well as non-governmental organisations in the context of rural development. Rural health services, safe drinking water, sanitation, nutrition etc., have therefore been brought together in the form of an integral package to improve the social, economic and health conditions of the people. Therefore, the primary goal of any health care delivery system is to organise the health services in such a manner as to optimally utilise the available resources, knowledge and technology, with a view to preventing and alleviating diseases, disabilities and sufferings of the people.
